Chapters Haul

So yesterday I went to chapters for a daily planner. Two hours later, I emerged from the store trying my best to carry two enormous bags packed with items. I definitely spent much more money than I meant to, but I’m so happy with all of my purchases and everything is going to be put to great use.

So first off I got myself not one, not two, but seven scented candles! Two of them are fall scents…the orange container is heirloom pumpkin and the black glass holder is wood smoke. I’ve already started using these and they are incredibly beautiful! The one thing I will say is that the wood smoke one can overwhelm a small space really quickly, so either have it in a larger space, or only leave it burning for a maximum of half an hour. The rest of these candles are all Christmas scents! I know, I know, it’s only October. But Christmas is my absolute favourite time of year and I got so excited looking at all the Christmas items that I just had to buy some. I obviously haven’t started using these candles yet…they are tucked away in my Christmas box until it’s time. The green container is balsam/cedar…and it smells EXACTLY like a Christmas tree. I can’t get a real Christmas tree into my apartment, so at least I can still have the smell. I almost cried smelling it in the store…it was very emotional. The orange glass in the back is cedar/orange, both the white tin and the white container are gilded amberleaf (it’s just a classically gorgeous scent, so I wanted two), and the red glass container is noble current.

Well I did in fact manage to get a daily planner, as that is what I went in for in the first place. This one is so cute…I have an obsession with owls, so I couldn’t resist the owl on the front. I also love the layout of the inside. There are no dates on anything…just days of the week. This means if I don’t need it for a week, or fall out of the habit of using it for a little while, there is no pressure and I can just pick it up for whenever I do need it.

I finally got an umbrella! I’ve wanted one for a while, but I like nice big umbrellas, so I’ve been holding off on buying one. This one is the perfect size for me, and it’s cute as frick. It’s actually by Kate Spade New York.

I LOVE THESE COASTERS. The colours are so bright and vibrant and they say the cutest things on them: life of the party, laugh out loud, dance until dawn, and spike the punch. Just to be clear, I don’t think it’s ok to spike punch, I personally have never met anyone who can keep dancing until dawn, I think it’s perfectly ok to laugh on the inside, and if you aren’t the life of the party and instead may not even go to the party but stay at home with a good book then I completely support you. However, you can’t take these things too seriously, and I still think these are the cutest coasters I have ever seen. They are also by Kate Spade New York.

Well it wouldn’t have been a proper Chapters trip if I hadn’t even bought one book. I almost didn’t include this in my post, since it’s not exactly home-ware or beauty. But I’ve started reading it, and it’s really touched me, so I want to share it with all of you. It’s just the funny, awkward, embarrassing, and touching stories of life from a young woman, with lessons that she wanted to share from her mistakes. There’s one passage right in the introduction that really spoke to me, so that’s what I will share with you.

“She painted a picture of life made much richer by having once been, as she calls it, a Mouseburger: unpretty, unspecial, unformed. She believed that, ultimately, Mouseburgers are the women who will triumph, having lived to tell the tale of being overlooked and underloved. Hers is a self-serving perspective, but one I needed more than anything. Maybe, as Helen preached, a powerful, confident, and, yes, even sexy woman could be made, not born. Maybe.”

Yes…I got Christmas cards. There was just so much selection, and I wasn’t sure there would be later on. I send a lot of cards, so I got two boxes. The one with Santa says “Have a Merry Little Christmas” inside and the one with the penguins says “Celebrate the Season and Enjoy the Holidays!” I wanted to two types that said Merry Christmas, but it is extremely hard to find any that mention Christmas, so I settled for holidays. I mean, I completely understand that not everyone celebrates Christmas, and I think it’s great that card companies understand that too, I was just a little sad for my own card sending purposes. Anyway, I love the cards I ended up with, so no complaining!

I got a travel journal! I’m not traveling anywhere until May (I’m going to Greece!! Yay!!), but last August I wanted to keep a journal when I went to Tanzania. I did keep a journal, but I never found a great travel journal and was quite sad about the one I ended up with. So I figured if I see a perfect one like this, better pick it up now and avoid all of that later. I love this one, and it’s full of cute designs on the inside as well!

I can’t resist a good card, I’m just drawn to them. I got six different ones yesterday. What I love about these is that they are pop-up cards. And not just any pop-up…they pop-up into very beautiful intricate paper designs. And while the cat/laundry machine one clear says happy birthday and the baby crib one just has to be used for someone’s new baby, the rest of them have the option to put in any message you want….so the number of occasions I can use them for is unlimited!

This picture isn’t the prettiest, and I’m sorry about that. I just couldn’t get the right light to hit that wall, and the arrangement is a bit off for the chalkboard stickies, because I want to get another set, and have one for every day of the week. Anyway, I love these. They are chalkboard wall decals, and I’m using them to organize my individual days. I’m so excited about getting another set as soon as I possibly can.
